I'm happy to report that Thanksgiving was a great day for the Shipe family! The food all turned out fine, even the turkey! We agreed that brining was an easy way to add lots of flavor to what can otherwise be a bland and dry bird. The creamed Swiss chard was a hit, even though most people had never even heard of chard before trying it. Also on the menu: gluten-free cornbread, cranberry-orange sauce, whipped sweet potatoes with caramelized apples, and mashed potatoes. There's no reason not to try some of these recipes for side dishes throughout the fall and winter in your home. Enjoy!

Thanksgiving Recipes
This year, I'm cooking a turkey for the first time. We'll see how it goes! I've decided to brine my turkey according to this recipe from Martha Stewart. It's supposed to give the turkey much more flavor and moisture. I'm also going to try this Cranberry-Orange Sauce this year. Thought you all might enjoy the links to check out the recipes for yourselves!
Also, Thanksgiving just isn't Thanksgiving without these absolutely delicious Whipped Sweet Potatoes with Carmelized Apples. A much healthier and mouth-watering alternative to sweet potatoes topped with mounds of sugar and marshmallows.

Happy Thanksgiving!
